He is best known for his roles in the Broadway musicals Dreamgirls, The Wiz, and Jelly's Last Jam. Burge began his career as a dancer, performing in the Broadway production of Dreamgirls in 1981. He went on to appear in the Broadway productions of The Wiz, Jelly's Last Jam, and The Color Purple. He also appeared in the film version of Dreamgirls. In addition to his stage work, Burge has appeared in numerous television shows, including Law & Order, The Cosby Show, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He has also appeared in films such as The Preacher's Wife and The Best Man. Burge is married to actress and singer, LaChanze. They have two children together.
