Gus Arnheim was an American bandleader, composer, and arranger. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and began his career as a violinist in the early 1900s. He soon moved to Los Angeles, where he formed his own orchestra, the Cocoanut Grove Orchestra, in the 1920s. The orchestra was one of the most popular in the country, and Arnheim wrote and arranged many of its songs. He also wrote and arranged for other bands, including the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. Arnheim's compositions included "Sweet and Low-Down," "Crazy Rhythm," and "I'm in the Mood for Love." He also wrote the theme song for the popular radio show "Fibber McGee and Molly." Arnheim was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1985. He died in Los Angeles in 1955.
