Australian writer, member of the Rogue school of mysteries which featured clever thieves and swindlers, popular with Late Victorian readers. Guy Boothby was born in Adelaide, Australia, at a 16-acre property named "The Glen", which was purchased in 1855 by Mr. Justice Boothby, his uncle, who resided there until his death in June 1868. Guy Boothby's name is inscribed in several places on the walls and on the low ceiling of one of the rooms. Boothby spent his youth at The Glen, which was later sold by Judge Boothby's sister and occupied as a monastery by the Passionist Fathers.
