Hanafiah Hussain was a Malaysian politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Yan, Kedah from 1959 to 1974. He was also the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs from 1959 to 1964. Born on 16 April 1927 in Yan, Kedah, Hanafiah Hussain was educated at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College in Alor Setar. He then went on to study at the University of Malaya in Singapore, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952. Hanafiah Hussain began his political career in 1959 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Yan, Kedah. He was also appointed as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in the same year. He served in this position until 1964. In 1974, Hanafiah Hussain retired from politics and returned to his hometown of Yan, Kedah. He passed away on 15 April 2021 at the age of 96. Throughout his life, Hanafiah Hussain was a passionate advocate for the rights of the people of Kedah. He was also a strong supporter of the Malaysian independence movement and was a key figure in the negotiations that led to the formation of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.
