Haroun Suleiman is a Tanzanian politician and diplomat who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania from 1995 to 2005. He was born in Zanzibar, and attended the University of Dar es Salaam, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations. He began his career in the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977, and served in various diplomatic posts in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations. In 1995, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, a post he held until 2005. In 2006, he was appointed as the United Nations Special Envoy for Darfur, a post he held until 2009. He has also served as the Chairman of the African Union Peace and Security Council, and as the Chairman of the African Union High-Level Panel on Darfur. Haroun Suleiman is 67 years old as of 2021.
