Hedme Castro is a Honduran politician and former president of the National Congress of Honduras. She was born in Choluteca, Honduras, and is the daughter of former president of Honduras, Ramón Villeda Morales. She studied law at the National Autonomous University of Honduras and was a professor of constitutional law at the same university. In 1982, she was elected to the National Congress of Honduras, becoming the first woman to hold the position. She was re-elected in 1985 and 1988. In 1989, she was elected president of the National Congress, becoming the first woman to hold the position. In 1990, she was appointed Minister of Education and Culture, and in 1993 she was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 1997, she was appointed Ambassador to the United Nations. In 2001, she was elected to the National Congress of Honduras for a fourth term. In 2005, she was elected president of the National Congress for a second time.
