Henri Belolo is a French-Moroccan composer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the co-founder of the disco group Village People. Belolo was born in Casablanca, Morocco, and moved to France in the 1950s. He studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris and began his career as a composer and arranger for French singers. In 1977, Belolo co-founded the disco group Village People with Jacques Morali. The group became an international success, with hits such as "Y.M.C.A.", "Macho Man", and "In the Navy". Belolo wrote and produced the group's music, and also served as their manager. In the 1980s, Belolo moved to Los Angeles and continued to write and produce music for other artists, including the Pointer Sisters, the Weather Girls, and the Jets. He also wrote the theme song for the television show Baywatch. Belolo has been inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame and has received numerous awards for his work, including a Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording for the Village People's "Y.M.C.A.".
