Henryk Tomaszewski was a Polish actor, director, and theatre pedagogue. He was born in Warsaw, Poland, on 10 June 1914. He studied at the State Theatre School in Warsaw and graduated in 1937. He then worked as an actor at the State Theatre in Warsaw, where he remained until the outbreak of World War II. After the war, Tomaszewski became a director at the State Theatre in Warsaw, where he worked until his retirement in 1979. He was also a professor at the State Theatre School in Warsaw, where he taught acting and directing. Tomaszewski was a pioneer of the Polish theatre movement known as "Theatre of the Absurd". He was also a major influence on the development of Polish theatre in the post-war period. Tomaszewski was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta in 1975 and the Order of the White Eagle in 1983. He died in Warsaw on 28 April 2005.
