Herbert Slatery is an American lawyer and politician who currently serves as the Attorney General of Tennessee. He was appointed to the position in 2014 by Governor Bill Haslam. Slatery was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He then attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1977. Slatery began his legal career as an associate at the law firm of Miller & Martin in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He then served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee from 1979 to 1983. In 1983, he joined the law firm of Miller & Martin in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was a partner until his appointment as Attorney General. Slatery has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Tennessee Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Foundation, the Tennessee Supreme Court Historical Society, and the Tennessee Bar Foundation Fellows. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Nashville Bar Association. As of 2021, Herbert Slatery's net worth is estimated to be roughly $1 million.
