Hora Prasad Joshi was a Nepalese poet, writer, and scholar. He was born in 1925 in Kathmandu, Nepal. He was a renowned poet and scholar of Nepali literature. He was the first Nepali poet to be awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1967 for his collection of poems, "Kavita". He was also the first Nepali poet to be awarded the Padma Shri in 1971. He was a prolific writer and his works include poetry, novels, short stories, plays, and essays. He was also a renowned scholar of Nepali literature and was the first to introduce the concept of literary criticism in Nepal. He was a professor of Nepali literature at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu. Hora Prasad Joshi was a great admirer of Mahatma Gandhi and was a strong advocate of non-violence. He was also a great admirer of Rabindranath Tagore and was deeply influenced by his works. He was a great believer in the power of literature and its ability to bring about social change. Hora Prasad Joshi passed away in 2006 at the age of 81. He was a great contributor to Nepali literature and his works are still widely read and appreciated.
