Hubert Türk is a German politician who served as the Minister-President of the German state of Baden-Württemberg from 1976 to 1991. He was born on 31 January 1925 in Stuttgart, Germany. Türk studied law at the University of Tübingen and the University of Freiburg, and was awarded a doctorate in law in 1951. He then worked as a lawyer in Stuttgart. In 1961, Türk was elected to the Landtag of Baden-Württemberg, the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg. He was appointed Minister of Justice in the state government in 1967, and in 1976 he was elected Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg. He held this position until 1991. Türk was a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and was a close ally of Chancellor Helmut Kohl. He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1984. Türk is 86 years old.
