Ian Cheshire is a British businessman who has been the Group Chief Executive of Kingfisher plc since 2008. He was previously the Chief Executive of B&Q, the UK's largest home improvement retailer. He has also held senior positions at Asda, Safeway and Sainsbury's. Cheshire was born in Borneo in 1959 and educated at the University of Manchester, where he studied economics. He began his career in retail in 1982, joining Asda as a graduate trainee. He then moved to Safeway in 1989, where he held a number of senior positions, including Director of Marketing and Director of Strategy. In 1998, Cheshire joined Sainsbury's as Chief Executive of its convenience stores division. He then moved to B&Q in 2002, where he was appointed Chief Executive. In 2008, he was appointed Group Chief Executive of Kingfisher plc, the parent company of B&Q. Cheshire is a non-executive director of the Bank of England and a member of the Prime Minister's Business Advisory Group. He is also a trustee of the Prince's Trust and a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Sustainable Consumption. As of 2021, Ian Cheshire's net worth is estimated to be approximately $20 million.

In January 2016 he was nominated as chairman-elect of Debenhams, the international department store group. On 7 April 2016, he succeeded Nigel Northridge who had been chairman since April 2010. He was voted off the board on 10 January 2019.

2015

In January 2015 it was announced that he would succeed Lord Browne as lead non-executive director for the government. He was also the senior independent director of Whitbread plc until 2017 and the chair of the advisory board of the Cambridge institute of sustainability leadership until 2015

2014

He was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to business, sustainability, and the environment.

Cheshire's first job was with Boston Consulting Group, before working for Guinness, as Ernest Saunders' executive assistant, and Sears, before joining Kingfisher as strategy director in 1998. He subsequently ran E KIngfisher, the e-commerce division which acquired Screwfix. After that he was CEO international before becoming CEO of B&Q in 2005.
