Ian Douglas is an American author of science fiction and military fiction. He is best known for his Heritage Universe series, which includes the novels Star Carrier, Deep Space, and Dark Matter. He has also written several other series, including the Star Corpsman series, the Legacy Trilogy, and the Star Strike series. Douglas was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1980 with a degree in English. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1980 to 1984, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After leaving the Marines, he worked as a technical writer and editor for a number of companies, including Digital Equipment Corporation and Oracle Corporation. Douglas began writing science fiction in the late 1990s, and his first novel, Semper Mars, was published in 1998. Since then, he has written more than twenty novels, including the Heritage Universe series, the Star Corpsman series, the Legacy Trilogy, and the Star Strike series.
