Ian Redmond is a British biologist and conservationist. He is best known for his work with gorillas and other primates, and for his involvement in the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. He was born in Malaysia in 1954 and grew up in England. He studied zoology at the University of Bristol and obtained a PhD in primate behaviour from the University of Cambridge. Redmond has worked with gorillas and other primates in the wild since the 1970s, and has been involved in numerous conservation projects. He has also served as a consultant for the United Nations Environment Programme, the World Bank, and the World Conservation Union. He is a patron of the Born Free Foundation and the Ape Alliance, and is a trustee of the Gorilla Organization. Redmond has written several books, including Gorillas in the Mist (1984), A Primate's Memoir (2001), and The Great Apes (2005). He has also appeared in several documentaries, including the BBC's Life of Mammals (2002) and the National Geographic's Great Apes (2005).

His career spans more than 30 years in which he is renowned for his work with gorillas and elephants. Best known for his work with mountain gorillas, Redmond has been involved in more than 50 documentaries on the subject for, among others, BBC, National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. Redmond was also involved in the film Gorillas in the Mist spending some time with Sigourney Weaver so she could better understand her character.
