Inés García de Durán is a Colombian artist who has been active since the 1950s. She is best known for her abstract paintings, which often feature bright colors and geometric shapes. She has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. García de Durán was born in Neiva, Huila, Colombia in 1928. She studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Bogotá, and later at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid. She has been a professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. García de Durán's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Caracas. She has also participated in numerous international biennials, including the Venice Biennale and the São Paulo Biennial. García de Durán has received numerous awards for her work, including the National Prize for Plastic Arts from the Colombian Ministry of Culture in 2002, and the Gold Medal from the Colombian Academy of Fine Arts in 2005. She currently lives and works in Bogotá.
