He was also a member of the Romanian national team for the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway. Sumedrea began skiing at the age of 10 and quickly developed a passion for the sport. He trained with the Romanian national team and competed in his first international competition in 1948. He went on to win multiple medals in the World Cup and European Championships, including a gold medal in the 10 km event at the 1952 Winter Olympics. Sumedrea retired from competitive skiing in 1956 and went on to become a coach and mentor for the Romanian national team. He was also a member of the International Ski Federation (FIS) and served as a technical delegate for the FIS World Cup.
