Iskra Velinova is a Bulgarian rower who was born on 18 August, 1953 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having won gold in the women's quadruple sculls at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She also won a bronze medal in the women's double sculls at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Velinova began rowing in 1972 and was a member of the Bulgarian national team from 1975 to 1988. She won a total of nine medals at the European Rowing Championships, including four gold medals. She also won a gold medal at the 1985 World Rowing Championships in Hazewinkel, Belgium. Velinova retired from rowing in 1988 and is now a coach. She is married to fellow rower and Olympic gold medalist, Ivan Velinov. She currently lives in Sofia, Bulgaria.
