István Nemeskürty is a Hungarian screenwriter and author. He was born on 14 May 1925 in Budapest, Hungary. He is best known for his work on the films The Round-Up (1966), The Red and the White (1967), and The Confrontation (1969). Nemeskürty studied at the University of Budapest and graduated in 1949. He then worked as a journalist and editor for the Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet. In 1956, he began writing screenplays for films. He wrote the screenplay for The Round-Up, which won the Palme d'Or at the 1966 Cannes Film Festival. He also wrote the screenplay for The Red and the White, which won the Golden Bear at the 1967 Berlin International Film Festival. Nemeskürty has also written several books, including The Red and the White: A Study of the Hungarian Revolution (1968), The Confrontation: A Study of the Hungarian Revolution (1969), and The Round-Up: A Study of the Hungarian Revolution (1970).
