In March 2020 Penchev announces he's donating 222,000 leva to Alexandrovska University Hospital for the buying of ventilators because of thenew coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Penchev sets the condition that people working for his company Walltopia would use the ventilators with priority. He says firmly that if a sick person is currently using one of the machines, but one of his workers is also in need of mechanical ventilation, then the aforementioned sick person must be removed. Hospital staff declare that only doctors will decide who will use the ventilators. Later Alexandrovska hospital declines the donation, as its director declares that such a donation would break the medics' Hippocratic Oath and that the hospital accepts only unconditional donations. Penchev justifies his own actions and declares that he will offer other hospitals the machines under the same conditions.

Ivaylo Penchev is the co- founder and CEO of Walltopia, the largest climbing wall manufacturer in the world. He, along with Metin Musov, founded the company in 1996 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Walltopia has been the leading climbing wall manufacturer since 2009 and is currently operating in over 50 countries worldwide.

Penchev was born in Veliko Tarnovo on 10 March 1970 to Penko Penchev (born 1946) and Radka Pencheva. Growing up he became interested in physics and enrolled in Sofia University, studying theoretical physics. However, he dropped out in 1994 as he got involved in trade and, ultimately, the development of Walltopia.
