Timeline
Participated in the Canadian Indie Producing Seminar hosted by Federgreen Entertainment/IndieCan Entertainment with Avi Federgreen in 2019.
Attended the E20 Indie Film Lounge (Emerging 20 Filmmaker's Group) by Reelworld Film Festival, receiving a certificate of completion from Telefilm Canada executive Dan Lyon [2014-2015].
Renegade filmmaker J. A. Worthington is a writer/producer/director/editor and is known for Megalomania (2012), The LeVer (2014) and Sketchboogey (2017). He was born in Oakville, Ontario at the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. As a teen, he was obsessed with the films of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, John Carpenter, and David Cronenberg.
Volunteered at the Toronto International Film Festival as customer relations/festival liaison for the new TIFF Bell Lightbox opening [2010-2012].
One of his more realized films titled Project Genesis (2004) went on to be screened at a Toronto-based Film Festival in 2004, winning a Certificate of Merit for Best Storytelling and Best Editing. After graduating high school, J. A. Worthington attended the Toronto Film School (A division of the International Academy of Design & Technology), taking studies in Digital Film & TV Production.
In particular he loved Hook (1991), Halloween (1978) and the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) Trilogy (Special Edition, 1997). These films got him interested in the magic of the movies and filmmaking in general. In the beginning, curiosity got the best of him and he began experimenting with home videos as early as elementary school using his parent's Sony video8 camcorder.
His first introduction to editing was re-creating the opening title sequence to Halloween (1978) slide by slide, using an application similar to Microsoft Powerpoint.
After seeing A Clockwork Orange (1971) and 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) for the first time back-to-back in the summer of Grade 9, he was immediately transfixed and inspired by the art of cinema. From then on his favourite director was Stanley Kubrick and the fascination phase lasted a very long time. Raised in the small suburbs of Waterdown, Ontario he attended Waterdown District High School. During his rebellious years at WDHS, he single handedly shot and edited about 9 short film projects on miniDV, including a documentary bio about Andy Warhol.
