J. T. D. Addy was a Ghanaian politician and diplomat who served as the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana from 1957 to 1966. He was also the first Ghanaian Ambassador to the United States. Addy was born in Accra, Gold Coast, to a prominent family. He attended Achimota School and then proceeded to the University College of the Gold Coast (now University of Ghana) where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951. He then went on to study law at the Inner Temple in London, and was called to the bar in 1954. Addy returned to Ghana in 1955 and was appointed to the Legislative Assembly of the Gold Coast. He was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1957, and served in that capacity until 1966. He was also the first Ghanaian Ambassador to the United States, serving from 1966 to 1969. Addy was a member of the Pan-Africanist movement, and was a strong advocate for African unity and independence. He was also a founding member of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). Addy died on 15 April, 2021 at the age of 97.

Addy was employed by Société Commerciale de l'Ouest Africain (S.C.O.A.), where he worked for two and a half years at the Head Office in Accra. In July 1949, he enlisted in the Army as an Education Instructor and later became a Sergeant. Addy served with the second and fourth battalions, and also joined the UN Forces in the Congo, during the Congo crisis in 1963. In March 1966, he was appointed Commanding Officer of the first battalion. That same year, he was made Chairman of the Western Regional Administrative Committee (Regional Minister) and on 4 April 1967, he was made Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Administrative Committee, assuming office on 1 May 1967. He was succeeded by G. K. Yarboi.
