Jack Fitzgerald (rugby league) was born in 1925 in Australia. He was a professional rugby league player who played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Fitzgerald made his debut for South Sydney in 1945 and went on to play in the club's 1945 and 1946 premiership-winning teams. He was a member of the Rabbitohs' 1947 and 1948 grand final teams, and was a part of the club's 1949 premiership-winning side. Fitzgerald was a versatile player who could play in the forwards or in the backs. He was known for his strong defence and was a reliable goal kicker. He was a member of the Australian national team in 1947 and 1948, and was part of the Australian team that toured New Zealand in 1949. Fitzgerald retired from rugby league in 1950 and went on to become a successful businessman. He was inducted into the South Sydney Rabbitohs Hall of Fame in 2003. Fitzgerald was married to his wife, Mary, for over 60 years. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 91.

1961

Fitzgerald began his coaching career in the lower grades at Western Suburbs until taking over as first grade coach in 1961. In his first year as coach, Fitzgerald won the minor premiership with Wests as they made the grand final against the all conquering St George side. Wests lost the match 22–0 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Fitzgerald then coached the club as they reached the 1962 and 1963 grand finals against St George losing on both occasions. This would be the last time that Western Suburbs would make a grand final as a stand-alone club. Fitzgerald coached for one last season in 1964 before stepping down. He died in 1965 aged 40.

Fitzgerald began his career with Western Suburbs in 1949. In 1952, Fitzgerald was a member of the Western Suburbs side which claimed their fourth and final premiership defeating South Sydney in the grand final, with Fitzgerald scoring a try. Fitzgerald played for three more seasons before retiring as a player.
