Jack Welsh was born in Australia in 1924. He began his football career in the 1940s, playing for the South Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League. He was a strong and reliable defender, and was part of the South Melbourne team that won the 1945 VFL premiership. In 1947, Jack moved to the Essendon Football Club, where he played for the next five seasons. He was a key member of the Essendon team that won the 1949 VFL premiership. Jack retired from football in 1952, and went on to become a successful businessman. He was a director of several companies, including the Australian Football League, and was a member of the Essendon Football Club board of directors. Jack Welsh passed away in 2013, at the age of 89. He was remembered as a great footballer and a successful businessman.
