James Aldridge was born in White Hills, Australia, on 10 July 1918. He was the son of a miner and a schoolteacher. He attended the University of Melbourne, where he studied English and philosophy. After graduating, he worked as a journalist for the Melbourne Herald and the Sydney Morning Herald. In 1941, Aldridge joined the Royal Australian Air Force and served in the Middle East and Europe during World War II. After the war, he moved to England and worked as a freelance writer. He wrote several novels, including The Sea Eagle (1946), The Cruel Sea (1951), and The Ugly American (1958). He also wrote several non-fiction books, including The Story of the Royal Air Force (1954) and The Story of the Royal Navy (1956). Aldridge was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1967 for his services to literature. He died in London on 28 April, 2009. James Aldridge's net worth is estimated to be around $2 million.
