James 'Ike' Altgens was an American photographer and photojournalist. He was born on April 28, 1919 in Dallas, Texas. He is best known for his iconic photograph of President John F. Kennedy's assassination in Dallas on November 22, 1963. Altgens began his career as a photographer in the 1930s, working for the Dallas Times Herald. He was the chief photographer for the Associated Press in Dallas from 1941 to 1965. Altgens was present at the assassination of President Kennedy and captured the iconic photograph of the event. The photograph was widely published and is considered one of the most iconic images of the 20th century. Altgens retired from the Associated Press in 1965 and died in 1995 at the age of 76. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. At the time of his death, Altgens' net worth was estimated to be around $1 million.
