James Tunney (Canadian politician) is a Canadian politician who served as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons from 1968 to 1979. He was born on 16 June, 1927 in Grafton, Ontario, and is a farmer by profession. Tunney was first elected to the House of Commons in 1968 as a Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament for the riding of Hastings—Frontenac. He was re-elected in 1972, 1974, and 1979. During his time in office, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and the Standing Committee on Finance. Tunney was a strong advocate for rural issues and was a vocal opponent of the National Energy Program. He was also a strong supporter of the Canadian Wheat Board and the Canadian dairy industry. Tunney retired from politics in 1979 and returned to farming. He is now 83 years old and is still actively involved in the farming community. He is married to his wife, Mary, and has two children.
