Janaky Athi Nahappan is a Malaysian social activist and philanthropist. She is the founder of the Malaysian Indian Women's Association (MIWA) and the Malaysian Indian Education and Development Trust (MIEDT). She is also the founder of the Malaysian Indian Women's Association (MIWA) and the Malaysian Indian Education and Development Trust (MIEDT). Janaky Athi Nahappan was born in Kuala Lumpur, British Malaya (now Malaysia) on 25 February 1925. She was the daughter of a Tamil school teacher. She was educated at the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus in Kuala Lumpur. Janaky Athi Nahappan was a pioneer in the field of women's rights in Malaysia. She was a strong advocate for the rights of women and children, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Malaysian Indian Women's Association (MIWA) in 1975. She was also a founding member of the Malaysian Indian Education and Development Trust (MIEDT). Janaky Athi Nahappan was awarded the Malaysian Federal Award of Merit in 1984, and the Malaysian Federal Award of Merit in 1989. She was also awarded the Malaysian Federal Award of Merit in 1994. Janaky Athi Nahappan passed away on 28 April 2014 at the age of 89. She was survived by her two sons, two daughters, and four grandchildren.
