He is best known for his work on the films The Man Without a Past (2002), Lights in the Dusk (2006), and Lapland Odyssey (2010). Kuusi was born in Helsinki, Finland on April 29, 1954. He studied at the University of Helsinki and the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Kuusi began his career as a film director in the early 1980s. His first feature film, The Man Without a Past, was released in 2002 and was a critical and commercial success. The film won the Grand Prix at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Kuusi has since directed several other films, including Lights in the Dusk (2006), Lapland Odyssey (2010), and The Other Side of Hope (2017). He has also written and produced several films, including The Man Without a Past, Lights in the Dusk, and Lapland Odyssey. Kuusi has won numerous awards for his work, including the Jussi Award for Best Director in 2002 and the European Film Award for Best Director in 2006.
