Jaromir Vejvoda was a Czech composer and musician best known for his composition "Beer Barrel Polka," which became a popular hit in the United States during World War II. He was born on 28 March 1902 in Zbraslav, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary (now Prague, Czech Republic). Vejvoda studied music at the Prague Conservatory and later worked as a music teacher. He composed a number of popular songs, including "Beer Barrel Polka," which was first recorded in 1927. The song became a hit in the United States during World War II, and was later recorded by a number of artists, including the Andrews Sisters and Lawrence Welk. Vejvoda also composed a number of other popular songs, including "Roll Out the Barrel," "The Skater's Waltz," and "The Merry-Go-Round Waltz." He also wrote music for films, including the Czechoslovakian film "The Good Soldier Schweik" (1957). Vejvoda died on 8 April 1979 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He was 77 years old.
