Javed Akhtar is an Indian poet, lyricist and scriptwriter. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, the Sahitya Akademi Award as well as five National Film Awards. He is a popularly known face in the Indian film industry. Javed Akhtar was born on 17 January 1945 in Gwalior, Central India Agency, British India. He is the son of Jan Nisar Akhtar, a Bollywood film songwriter and Urdu poet, and Safia Akhtar, a teacher and a social worker. He has two siblings, Salim Khan and Farhan Akhtar. Javed Akhtar studied at St. Mary's School, Mumbai and later at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. He started his career as a songwriter in the early 1970s. He wrote the lyrics for the song "Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe" from the movie "Dil Chahta Hai" (2001). He has written lyrics for over 300 films and has won five National Film Awards and seven Filmfare Awards. Javed Akhtar is married to Shabana Azmi, an Indian actress. The couple has two children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar.
