Jean-Loup Waldspurger is a French mathematician who was born on 2 June, 1953 in France. He is a professor at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and a member of the French Academy of Sciences. He is known for his work in the field of number theory, particularly in the theory of automorphic forms and the Langlands program. Waldspurger received his PhD in mathematics from the University of Paris in 1979. He has held positions at the University of Paris, the University of Bordeaux, the University of Strasbourg, and the École Normale Supérieure. He was awarded the Grand Prix Jacques Herbrand in 1989 and the Grand Prix Paul Doistau-Émile Blutet in 1992. Waldspurger is married and has two children. He enjoys playing the piano and reading.

He played a role in the proof of the fundamental lemma, reducing the conjecture to a version for Lie algebras. This formulation was ultimately proven by Ngô Bảo Châu.
