Jean-Pierre Raffarin is a French politician who served as Prime Minister of France from 2002 to 2005. He was born on 3 August 1948 in Poitiers, Vienne, France. He is the son of Jean-Louis Raffarin, a civil servant, and his wife, Marie-Claire. Raffarin studied at the Lycée Montaigne in Bordeaux, before attending the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Bordeaux and then the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. He subsequently studied law at the University of Poitiers, graduating with a degree in 1971. Raffarin began his political career in the 1970s, serving as a local councillor in Poitou-Charentes from 1976 to 1982. He was elected to the National Assembly in 1986, representing the Vienne department. He was re-elected in 1988, 1993, 1997 and 2002. Raffarin served as Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade and Crafts from 1993 to 1995, and as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries from 1995 to 2002. In 2002, he was appointed Prime Minister by President Jacques Chirac. He served in this role until 2005, when he was replaced by Dominique de Villepin. Raffarin has since served as a Senator for the Vienne department, and as a member of the Constitutional Council. He is also a member of the board of directors of several companies, including Total and Air France. As of 2021, Jean-Pierre Raffarin's net worth is estimated to be approximately $10 million.
