Jeff Hirshfield is an American drummer, composer, and producer. He is best known for his work with the band Talking Heads, as well as his collaborations with David Byrne, Brian Eno, and other artists. He has also released several solo albums. Hirshfield was born in New York City and began playing drums at the age of nine. He attended the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and later studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Hirshfield's first professional gig was with the band The Waitresses in 1979. He then joined Talking Heads in 1980, and played on their albums Remain in Light, Speaking in Tongues, and Little Creatures. He also toured with the band and appeared in the concert film Stop Making Sense. In addition to his work with Talking Heads, Hirshfield has collaborated with a variety of artists, including David Byrne, Brian Eno, John Cale, and Yoko Ono. He has also released several solo albums, including The Real You (1995), The Way Home (1998), and The View From Here (2003). Hirshfield is currently based in New York City and continues to perform and record. He is also a professor at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
