Jefferson Hack

In April 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Hack announced the launch of the #AloneTogether campaign on Dazed, celebrating creativity in a time of crisis.

In 2019 Hack signed his name to an open letter the Creative Industries Federation published to the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson MP, on the value of creative education. He signed alongside other notable names in the industry including Katie Grand, Jonathan Anderson, Sarah Mower, Dylan Jones and Dame Natalie Massenet.

Hack was one of the many headline speakers at the 2019 D&AD Festival, alongside names including Rankin and Lauren Laverne.

In April 2019, it was announced that Dazed Media signed an agreement with YOHO! Group, China’s largest streetwear platform, to launch Dazed China in August 2019. Dazed China was launched at YoHood festival where Jefferson was Creative Director, enlisting Daniel Arsham to reimagine Yohood’s branding and create the set design concept for the fair that takes place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

In May 2019, Hack penned a love letter to print for issue 13 of System Magazine, highlighting on his 27 year career in the industry.

In August 2019, Hack announced the launch of the exhibition Transformer: A Rebirth of Wonder at 180 The Strand in London, opening for three months on 2 October 2019, during Frieze London.  Curated by Hack the exhibition featured newly commissioned and debut work by: Doug Aitken , Sophia Al-Maria & Victoria Sin, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Donna Huanca, Juliana Huxtable, Evan Ifekoya, Dozie Kanu, Quentin Lacombe, Lawrence Lek, Jenn Nkiru, Chen Wei and Harley Weir & George Rouy. The works were connected by themes including ritual, identity, magic and political reality and was described by The Guardian as “ a mind-blowing rumble in the jungle”.  Alongside the exhibition a programme of performances, talks and workshops titled Alchemical Realms took place over the course of the three months.

In December 2019, Hack was part of the Selfridges ‘Future Fantasy’ Christmas campaign film alongside names including Noomi Rapace, Miguel, Chris Wiley, Kim Jones and Daniel Arsham.

In May 2018, Hack became a board member of the Creative Industries Federation.

In September 2018, Hack launched Dazed Beauty, a next generation online platform dedicated to redefining the language and communication of beauty. In February 2019, Dazed Beauty launched in print with Issue Zero. Cover stars included Travis Scott, Kate Moss and Kylie Jenner.

In November 2017, Hack teamed up with British clothing brand Underground to launch a collection of Apollo brothel creepers taken from its archives spanning the last thirty years.

Hack has worked with Bjork and as creative consultant to U2.In 2015 he worked with Rihanna on a project with Alexander McQueen and Another Magazine that resulted in the world's first digital cover magazine and in 2015 with fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld which resulted in the world's first handcrafted hologram fashion magazine cover.

Hack has spoken at Web Summit, Wired and Mediacom Beyond Advertising conferences. He signed his name to a public letter by Refugee Action and supported Parlay for the Oceans during the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference. He is a member of the British Fashion Council's Menswear Committee supporting London Fashion Week Men's and London Show Rooms in Paris. He was considered as an international expert on the LVMH prize committee.

In 2013, Hack launched Dazed Studio, the creative agency wing of Dazed Media, which makes digital, video, print, events and social media for brands, Dazed & Confused was rebranded as Dazed in spring 2014.

In 2010 Hack co-founded Nowness, an independent luxury lifestyle video channel in partnership with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. In 2017 Dazed Media and Modern Media formed a joint venture titled Modern Dazed and acquired a majority stake in Nowness.

In 2006 Hack launched dazeddigital.com, in 2009 he launched anothermag.com, and in 2017 he launched anothermanmag.com.

Hack has edited multiple books including Star Culture (Phaidon Press, 2000); Another Portrait Book (Steidl, 2009); Another Fashion Book (Steidl, 2009); Another Art Book (Steidl, 2010); Dazed and Confused: Making It Up As We Go Along (Rizzoli, 2011), Another Man: Men's Style Stories (Rizzoli, 2014) and We Can’t Do this Alone: Jefferson Hack the System (Rizzoli, 2016).

Hack was in a relationship with model Kate Moss in the early 2000s. Together they have a daughter, Lila Grace Moss-Hack born in 2002. He lives in East London.

In 1991, at the age of 19, Hack founded Dazed with photographer Rankin while a student at London College of Printing. In 2001 Hack launched luxury bi-annual Another Magazine. In 2005 Hack co-founded men's style bi-annual Another Man.

Jefferson Hack (born 1971) is a Curator, Creative Director and co-founder of Dazed Media, an independent media company that produces stories across its print, digital and video brands. The company's portfolio includes fashion bi-annuals Another Magazine and Another Man; bi-monthly youth fashion and culture magazine Dazed, and websites Anothermag.com, Dazeddigital.com, Dazedbeauty.com and Anothermanmag.com in addition to the creative wing Dazed Studio. Hack, who previously served as Editor of these titles, is also co-founder of global video channel Nowness.
