Jerry Allison is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the drummer and co-writer of the hit song "Peggy Sue" by Buddy Holly and the Crickets. He was born on August 31, 1939 in Hillsboro, Texas. Allison began playing drums at the age of 12 and was soon playing in local bands. In 1957, he joined Buddy Holly and the Crickets and co-wrote the song "Peggy Sue" with Holly and Norman Petty. The song became a hit and was later covered by many other artists. Allison continued to play with the Crickets until the group disbanded in 1959. He then joined the group The Fireballs and played on their hit single "Sugar Shack". He also played on other recordings by artists such as Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. In the 1970s, Allison began producing records and working as a session musician. He has produced albums for artists such as Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and the Everly Brothers. He has also written songs for artists such as Johnny Cash and George Jones. Allison is currently a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Texas Music Hall of Fame. He continues to tour and perform with his band, The Crickets.
