Jerry Springer is an English-born American television presenter, producer, and former lawyer. He is best known for hosting the tabloid talk show The Jerry Springer Show, which has been running since 1991. He has also hosted the game show Baggage and the courtroom series Judge Jerry.
Springer was born in London, England, to Jewish parents Margot (née Kallmann) and Richard Springer. He was raised in New York City and graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1965. He earned a B.A. degree from Tulane University in 1968 and a J.D. degree from Northwestern University in 1972.
Springer began his career as a political campaign adviser and lawyer. He served as a campaign adviser to Robert F. Kennedy and was a campaign aide to John Lindsay, the mayor of New York City. He was elected to the Cincinnati city council in 1971 and served as mayor of Cincinnati from 1977 to 1978.
In 1991, Springer began hosting The Jerry Springer Show, a tabloid talk show that has become one of the longest-running shows in television history. He has also hosted the game show Baggage and the courtroom series Judge Jerry.
Springer has been married twice. He married his first wife, Micki Velton, in 1973. They divorced in 1994. He married his second wife, model and actress Alison Lebovitz, in 1996. They have one daughter together.
