Abrahams attended Shorewood High School and then went on to study at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he majored in theater and film. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Abrahams has been married to his wife, Nancy, since 1967. They have three children together. Abrahams has directed and produced a number of films, including Airplane! (1980), Top Secret! (1984), The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), and Hot Shots! (1991). He has also written and produced a number of television shows, including Police Squad! (1982), The Naked Gun (1988), and Hot Shots! (1991).
