Jody Stephens is an American drummer and singer best known as the drummer and one of the founding members of the alternative rock band Big Star. He was born on October 4, 1952 in Memphis, Tennessee. Stephens began playing drums at the age of 12, and by the time he was in high school, he was playing in local bands. In 1971, he joined the band Big Star, which was formed by Alex Chilton and Chris Bell. The band released three albums, #1 Record (1972), Radio City (1974), and Third/Sister Lovers (1978). Stephens has also played with other bands, including the Posies, Golden Smog, and the Gories. He has also released solo albums, including A Man Called Destruction (1995) and This Is the New Year (2009). In addition to his music career, Stephens has also worked as a producer and engineer. He has produced albums for the Replacements, the Posies, and the Gories, among others. As of 2021, Jody Stephens's net worth is estimated to be roughly $2 million.
