John Bertrand is an American sailor and businessman who was born on 25 March, 1956 in San Mateo, California, United States. He is best known for winning the 1983 America's Cup, the oldest international sporting trophy. He is the first non-American to win the America's Cup. Bertrand began sailing at the age of eight and competed in his first regatta at the age of twelve. He went on to compete in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada, where he finished in sixth place. In 1983, Bertrand skippered Australia II to victory in the America's Cup, becoming the first non-American to win the trophy. He was also the first Australian to win the America's Cup. Bertrand has since gone on to become a successful businessman, founding the John Bertrand Group, a consulting firm that specializes in corporate strategy and business development. He is also the Chairman of the America's Cup Event Authority, which is responsible for organizing the America's Cup. As of 2021, John Bertrand's net worth is estimated to be approximately $20 million.
