John Frey

John Frey has worked internationally as an actor, screenwriter, and teacher in theater, film, and television for over 25 years. John's screenwriting credits include Cabaret Maxime, opening in February 2020 at the Metrograph Theater in NYC (Best Film Award and Best Screenplay Nominee - Society of Authors, Portugal 2019), Operation Autumn (Best Adapted Screenplay Award - Academy Portuguese Cinema 2013), The Lovebirds (Best Screenplay Award - OUFF Spain 2009), The Collection (NYC 2005). Film acting credits include Michael Imperioli's The Hungry Ghosts, On the Run, The Collection, 15 Months in May (NYC), Call Girl, In Slow Motion, The Lovebirds, Operation Autumn and Cabaret Maxime (Portugal), The Wake (Denmark), A Palestra produced by the European Capital of Culture, and Les Taxis Rouges with Jean Reno (France). Television acting credits include Rescue Me with Dennis Leary and the TV miniseries Mata Hari with Rutger Hauer and Gérard Depardieu (Russia). Theater acting credits include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, 27 Wagons Full of Cotton, Miss Julie, Of Mice and Men and Bruce Nauman Retrospective at DIA Center for the Arts, written and directed by Tate Award winner Mark Wallinger.

John established the John Frey Studio for Actors in Lisbon, Portugal in 2009 (Meisner Technique Acting School). John is the artistic director of Below The Belt Theatre co. in Lisbon. John directed critically acclaimed productions of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and The MotherF **ker with the Hat in Lisbon with Below the Belt, as well as various staged readings including Denis Johnson's Love's Debris in conjunction with the Disquiet International Literary Program. In New York City, John directed Summer and Smoke, Talk to Me Like the Rain and Let Me Listen and Call it Clover on Theater Row. John currently teaches acting at the William Esper Studio in NYC.
