John Pierson is an American filmmaker, film producer, and writer. He was born on April 10, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is best known for his work on the films Slacker, She's Gotta Have It, and Clerks. Pierson attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a degree in English. After college, he worked as a production assistant on the film Slacker, which was directed by Richard Linklater. He then went on to produce the films She's Gotta Have It and Clerks. Pierson has written several books, including Spike, Mike, Slackers & Dykes: A Guided Tour Across a Decade of American Independent Cinema, and Split Screen: Attack of the Sequels. He has also written for the New York Times, the Village Voice, and the Los Angeles Times. Pierson is currently the host of the podcast IFC's Split Screen, which focuses on the world of independent film. He is also the founder of the website Grainy Pictures, which is dedicated to independent film. As of 2021, John Pierson's net worth is estimated to be roughly $2 million.
