John Siras was an American composer and arranger of popular music. He was born in New York City and began his career as a pianist in vaudeville. He went on to become a prolific composer and arranger of popular music, writing for Broadway shows, films, and television. He was also a conductor and arranger for the NBC Symphony Orchestra. Siras was a prolific composer, writing over 500 songs, including the popular "I'm in the Mood for Love" and "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter". He also wrote the music for the Broadway musicals "The Cat and the Fiddle" and "The Red Mill". Siras was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "I'm in the Mood for Love" in 1935. He was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Original Score for "The Red Mill" in 1966. Siras died in New York City on October 13, 1989, at the age of 100.
