In 1997 Johnny went to Providence, RI and helped Laura Colella produce her first feature film TAX DAY. He then teamed up with Lisa Kotin for Temporary Girl. The film was well received. He produced Paula M. Froehle's Underground Women, starring Joyce Piven and Laura Colella. He produced a low budget narrative feature by FIVE FILMS (Gustavo Albero, Mike Verna) through a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. He was featured in CS (Chicago Social) Magazine as the independent filmmaker in Chicago making his mark on American cinema.

1996

In 1996, White produced and hosted "Talk Show with Johnny White" - a variety talk show that ran on first Fridays for 8 months at Chicago Filmmakers. He worked on My Best Friend's Wedding, and Home Alone 3. He was featured in "Wild Chicago" a indy local television show for Chicago's PBS.

1988

Matriculating to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia - White continued his dedication to community service through Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the Rotaract Club, the latter of which he founded. Active in both the OU Players (college theatre group) and the Georgia Shakespeare Festival (an instrumental assistant in its founding) White honed his acting skills in productions including The Taming of the Shrew, Grease, The Elephant Man, The Fantastics and Much Ado About Nothing. Graduating in 1988 with a degree in Philosophy and Writing, White stayed in Atlanta through the fall, working as a bartender at Fat Tuesday's and studying acting through an apprentice fellowship program at The Academy Theatre. In 1989, he began his post-baccalaureate studies in Filmmaking at the University of South Florida. There he developed his interest in experimental filmmaking and in 1992, earned his master's degree in Filmmaking at the prestigious The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His mentors included Philip Hoffman, Stephanie Maxwell, Lynne Sachs, Sharon Couzin, and Shellie Fleming.

Johnny Cubert White Jr. was born to teenaged runaways in Hammond, Indiana, USA. In 1974, White's parents - John and Georgia Kambiss White moved with Johnny and Jackie (his sister, born 1970) to Florida - living first in Clearwater, then to New Port Richey and Holiday Lake Estates and finally to Tarpon Springs, Florida where the family settled for many years. Johnny graduated from Tarpon Springs High School in 1984. His involvement in community service lead to many citations including The Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce Award for Distinguished Service. His most active role was as a member of Interact, a service organization sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tarpon Springs, of which he was President his senior year.
