In 2000, Bush joined the Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group as a volunteer after the deaths of her father and sister to violence. During her time with the company, Bush was promoted to chief executive officer in 2007 and initiated an anti-violence campaign called One Punch Can Kill. In 2012, Bush started Project 24, which focuses on fundraising for agencies that specialize in gender-based violence prevention. In 2009, Bush moved to Brisbane and worked in youth violence prevention. The following year, Bush created a website on anti-violence awareness. Outside of advocacy, Bush was a member of the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council from 2010 to 2012. From June 2015 to June 2016, Bush worked on creating an online service called Kintsugi Centre that connects Australians who are experiencing trauma with psychotherapists. In 2018, Bush joined the Office of the Public Guardian as a visiting director for Queensland.
