Josef Suk was a Czech composer and violinist. He was born into a musical family, and his grandfather was the famous composer Antonín Dvořák. He studied at the Prague Conservatory and later at the Academy of Music in Vienna. He was a member of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Czech Quartet. Suk composed a number of works, including symphonies, chamber music, and operas. He is best known for his two symphonic poems, Asrael and Praga, and his String Quartet No. 2, which is often referred to as the "Serenade for Strings". He also wrote a number of film scores, including the score for the Czech film The White Dove. Josef Suk died on May 29, 2011, at the age of 81. He was survived by his wife, the soprano Eva Sukova, and their two children. His net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around $2 million.
