Joseíto Mateo was a Dominican singer, songwriter, and actor. He was known as the "King of Merengue" and "El Diablo Mateo" for his unique style of singing and playing the accordion. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on April 6, 1920. Mateo began his career as a singer in the 1940s, and soon became one of the most popular merengue singers in the Dominican Republic. He was known for his unique style of singing and playing the accordion, and for his ability to improvise lyrics. He was also known for his flamboyant stage presence and his ability to captivate audiences. Mateo released over 50 albums throughout his career, and was the first Dominican artist to be awarded a gold record.
