Joshua B. Bederson is a neurosurgeon and professor of neurological surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. He is the director of the Mount Sinai Brain and Spine Institute and the chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery. Bederson was born in 1957 in New York City. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983 and completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh in 1988. He then completed a fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 1989. Bederson has been a professor of neurological surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai since 1989. He is the director of the Mount Sinai Brain and Spine Institute and the chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery. He is also the director of the Mount Sinai Gamma Knife Center and the director of the Mount Sinai Neuro-Oncology Program. Bederson has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has written several books on neurosurgery. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
