Juana Marta Rodas was born in Paraguay on 8 February 1925. She was a prominent figure in the Paraguayan women's rights movement, and was the first woman to be elected to the Paraguayan Senate. She was also the first woman to be appointed as a Minister of Education in Paraguay. Rodas was a member of the Colorado Party, and was elected to the Senate in 1989. She served in the Senate until 1993. During her time in the Senate, she was a vocal advocate for women's rights, and was instrumental in the passage of the Law of Equality of Opportunities for Women in Paraguay. Rodas was also a strong advocate for education, and was appointed as the Minister of Education in 1993. During her tenure, she worked to improve the quality of education in Paraguay, and to increase access to education for all citizens. Rodas was a passionate advocate for human rights, and was a founding member of the Paraguayan Human Rights Commission. She was also a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Rodas passed away in 2013 at the age of 88. She was remembered for her tireless work in the fight for women's rights and for her commitment to education and human rights.
