Julio Silva Solar was born on 8 June, 1926 in Chile. He is a Chilean politician and lawyer who served as the Minister of the Interior and Public Security from 1973 to 1974. He was also the Minister of Justice from 1974 to 1975. Solar was born in Santiago, Chile, and studied law at the University of Chile. He was a professor of constitutional law at the same university. He was a member of the Christian Democratic Party and was a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1965 to 1973. Solar was appointed Minister of the Interior and Public Security in 1973 by President Salvador Allende. He was in office until the military coup of 11 September 1973. After the coup, he was appointed Minister of Justice by President Augusto Pinochet. He resigned from this post in 1975. Solar was a member of the National Commission for Truth and Reconciliation, which was established in 1990 to investigate human rights violations committed during the Pinochet regime. He was also a member of the Chilean National Commission for the Defense of Human Rights. Solar is 88 years old. He is married and has two children. His height is 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m).
