Julio Sobrera is a former Uruguayan cyclist who was born on 11 July, 1927 in Uruguay. He is best known for his achievements in the Tour de France, where he won the King of the Mountains title in 1954. Sobrera began his cycling career in the 1940s, competing in local races in Uruguay. He moved to Europe in 1952, where he joined the Italian team, Ganna. He competed in the Tour de France for the first time in 1953, finishing in the top 10. In 1954, Sobrera won the King of the Mountains title in the Tour de France, becoming the first South American to do so. He also finished in the top 10 overall. He went on to compete in the Tour de France for the next three years, but was never able to replicate his success from 1954. Sobrera retired from professional cycling in 1958. He returned to Uruguay, where he opened a bicycle shop. He is now 96 years old and still lives in Uruguay. Julio Sobrera has an estimated net worth of $1 million.
